You will join a collaborative team, working with Dr David Owen (a clinical molecular pharmacologist) and Dr Samuel Barnes (Senior Lecturer, focussing on homeostatic neural-circuit plasticity).


The preclinical project involves using longitudinal 2-Photon in vivo imaging techniques to measure calcium mediated neuronal activity and cortical blood flow in preclinical rodent models capturing features of AD.

Follow on work may utilise behavioural tests of cognition using automated touchscreen technology.


This role is aligned with the UK Dementia Research Institute at Imperial College London, located in the Department of Brain Sciences.

Duties and responsibilities:

As a Research Associate, you will:

  • Build on your existing skills and experience to address major components of this project independently.
  • Present research findings as written reports, at conferences, within the College and as published manuscripts.
  • Take initiative in the planning of research, with clear and timely communications to the Group Leader and relevant researchers.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the lab and facilities, acting collegiately with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students.
  • Provide guidance to staff and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students, as required.
  • Maintain highly organised and accurate records of experimental work.
  • Undertake appropriate scientific and professional training.

Essential requirements:

You will be a
motivated and organised researcher, excited by the science we do.


You will hold (or be near completion of)
a PhD in neuroscience (or related discipline), with practical experience of 2-Photon _in vivo_ imaging of mouse models and/or associated synaptic plasticity and neuronal micro-circuit experience.


Experience of one or more
software packages is essential: MATLAB, ImageJ, SigmaPlot, Prism, R as is experience in statistical analysis.
