The Director of Nursing and Clinical Practice leads and oversees professional leadership, clinical governance, management, training, and development of our nursing teams. The ideal candidate should possess comprehensive knowledge of mental health clinical practice, including a deep understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007. A valid driving license is required for independent travel across regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to nursing teams for safe, effective, and high-quality care;
  • Oversee clinical governance, risk management, and nursing care standards organization-wide;
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant healthcare acts and ensure compliance;
  • Regularly review and assess service provisions to meet evolving patient and community needs;
  • Contribute to the development of mental health strategies, policies, and procedures;
  • Develop a robust Nursing and Training strategy;
  • Identify training needs and ensure comprehensive clinical training for nursing teams;
  • Promote evidence-based practice through research facilitation;
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop nursing staff to encourage continuous learning and growth;
  • Engage with stakeholders, families, and patients to ensure patient-centered care;
  • Collaborate with senior managers on strategic planning and implementation;
  • Ensure efficient resource utilization, budget management, and financial responsibility;
  • Lead on various organizational aspects like Infection Control, Safeguarding, and more for the protection of individuals;
  • Attend Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings ensuring integrated care strategies;

Experience:

  • Several years of experience in the mental health or healthcare sector;
  • Proven leadership in acute inpatient, secure, or community mental health services;
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant healthcare acts;
  • Competence in implementing Mental Health Act provisions in clinical settings;
  • Experience in improving clinical practice, training, and conducting audits;
  • Delivering clinical supervision and mentorship;
  • Commitment to continuous professional development;
  • Managing clinical incidents and safeguarding concerns;
  • Effective communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders;

Qualifications:

  • Mental Health Nurse with valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration;
  • Evidence of further qualifications like an Advanced Degree in Mental Health Nursing;
