We are currently looking to recruit an enabler to provide support for a teenager to get out and about into the local community.

The support is required to enable this teenager to enjoy activities such as museums, swimming, transport - enjoys using trains and buses and is also a Lego fan.


Brief details of the job:

  • Support to access activities in the community.
  • Encourage socialisation outside of the family home.
  • Increase independence and support to make appropriate friends.
  • To ensure the safety of this young person as does not always understand or perceive risks. Must be always supervised.


Ideally understanding Aspergers would be an advantage and an awareness of impulsive behaviours and how to resolve these would be beneficial, however training will be provided.


Person Specification

Successful applicant must:

  • Ideally have some understanding of Aspergers would be an advantage.
  • Be able to recognise impulsive behaviours and act accordingly to resolve these.
  • Have a high degree of initiative.
  • Be flexible as holiday hours may be on differing days etc.
  • Enjoy being outdoors.
  • Respect confidentiality.
  • Car driver is preferred.
  • No medication or health interventions are needed.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required, cost to be met by Northumberland County Council.
