About the role
We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual who would like the opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment and the places in which we live, and help the Council achieve its ambitions for meeting Net Zero commitments by influencing people's travel choices.
In this role you will join a team dedicated to making walking, wheeling and cycling the natural choices for shorter journeys and outdoor recreation by providing high-quality infrastructure and activities and initiatives which support and encourage people to change their travel behaviours.
As one of our Safe and Active Travel Officers you will be a champion and advocate for sustainable travel and will focus on creating, implementing and reviewing a programme of behavioural change activities and initiatives that target schools, workplaces and communities.
The role will also involve providing guidance and advice to internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to sustainable travel, including current best practice policies and interventions and on preparing, implementing and monitoring of travel plans.
Key skills and experience required
To be successful in this role you will need to be motivated, creative, organised and willing to take responsibility for the success of your activities.
You will need good research and analytical skills to develop detailed understanding of the barriers to sustainable travel and to identify, explore and develop solutions.
As you will be working with and alongside a wide range of internal and external colleagues, partners and stakeholders and having direct face to face contract with the public, you will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
You will also need to be highly persuasive and able to use your skills to motivate behaviour change and achieve results.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to start or progress your career in sustainable transport and transport planning. You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent). Previous experience in sustainable travel or related activity is desirable, but not essential as on-the-job training will be given.Additional Information
