The Centre for Justice, Law and Society (CJLS) based at the Royal Docks School of Business and Law, University of East London, wishes to recruit a fixed-term Research Associate to undertake directed research activity on the project 'Adducing Expert Evidence on Islamic Law in the Courts'.

This project will examine the role of expert witnesses in Islamic Law adduced in court cases involving Muslim parties.

The particular focus is on those reported cases in which the parties and/or courts have deployed/ordered expert evidence, ranging from Imams drawn from local mosques to academic experts in Islamic Law.

A database of such cases will be created.


Your main responsibilities will be to undertake directed research activity on legislation, policy initiatives and case law as part of a research team and under the direction of Qudsia Mirza as Principal Investigator.

You will also partake in undertaking directed research activity on the use of expert evidence on Islamic Law in UK cases as part of a research team and under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

You will also consolidate work and records, produced by others within the project and contribute to the delivery of a project by providing related research and administrative support in relation to project deliverables.
