In this role, you will be responsible for your own consultants, and will need to provide a comprehensive medical secretarial service to a team on consultants and associated supporting clinical staff, ensuring an efficient service and a smooth patient pathway.

You will co-ordinate referrals to schedule new appointments and liaise sensitively with patients. Provide first point of contact to and for consultants. Emotional resilience required, due to the sensitive nature of the department. Organisational skills needed to co-ordinate a busy workload.


You will also be the named point of contact when colleagues are on annual leave and to cover the workload during this time (therefore responsible for less consultants to ensure this is viable).


  • Organising consultant clinics
  • Word processing and audio typing
  • Patient consultant liaison
  • Sort incoming postal and electronic mail
  • Communicate with external trusts for patient care
  • Cover for colleagues' annual leave
  • Various office duties (photocopying, printing, answering telephone calls etc)
  • NEW ability to work efficiently from the office, or from home when possible.
