Southampton Young People provides supported accommodation for up to 20 people between the age of 16 and 21, including care leavers and looked after children.

The service operates across various locations in Southampton, each is tailored to the needs of the clients and offer various levels of support.


Our aim is to support young people with their individual needs to enable them to gain life skills to move on to long term, lower or independent supported living.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the first welcoming friendly face for people coming into the service
  • Provide informal support to clients and be a listening ear
  • Respond to incoming calls
  • Manage clients and their visitors within the building and any associated safety issues. Deal with any incidents that may arise and contact external services when necessary
  • Monitor the service and surrounding areas that are covered by CCTV
  • Carry out regular visual checks / fire checks on the interior and exterior of the buildings and car park, noting defects during the handover or via the communications book
  • Perform any other checks or tasks as directed by staff, referring issues to relevant person
  • You will be extremely conscientious in areas such as safeguarding and lone working and follow the relevant procedures
  • Maintain clean and tidy communal areas
  • Provide detailed handovers to day staff, regarding client safety and support information
  • Work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and policy and procedure
  • Attend supervision, appraisal and training as required to carry out the role
  • Provide basic First Aid assistance until help arrives
  • Full training provided
  • Triage out of hours issues which may arise in services covered within the Core Homeless Contract and contact the oncall manager where applicable
  • Support your colleagues managing the night service, where required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING


Previous experience in this type of work is not essential but you will have a real passion for wanting to work with homeless people.

  • Clear verbal and written English
  • Good IT and keyboard skills
  • Polite, assertive manner, ability to self motivate
  • Passion for working in a client/customer facing role

A full drivers' licence and access to a vehicle is a requirement for this role

Our vision today is to give people who are homeless, vulnerable or in need of support, the opportunity to build a brighter future.

We have services in Berkshire, Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and Sussex.

We support 16-65 year olds.

Our services include outreach to rough sleepers, supported accommodation (direct access hostels, move-on accommodation, and resettlement flats), day centres, community support, housing first and landlord support services.
