Quality Inspector

Purpose:


As a Quality Inspector, you will learn how to maintain and operate the 3D measuring FARO arm and to perform inspection operations required by the Quality, Operations and Engineering Departments.

On a day-to-day basis you will be expected to maintain and update all relevant paper and electronic records per Dymag Business Management System.

Additionally, you will have opportunities to input into Dymag's continuous improvement activities, with a particular emphasis on reducing product cost, scrap and rework.


Reporting to:

Head of Quality / Head of Manufacturing Engineering

Main Duties:

This role is varied and will be tailored to an individual's training, skills and experience.

Day to day duties could include the following:

  • Perform incoming inspection for all "measured" components as per control plan
  • Carry out inprocess and final inspection per job/route cards
  • Work with line manager to prioritise workflow in inspection area to meet operational requirements
  • Operate existing 3D measuring FARO equipment and programs
  • Check and maintain FARO arm to ensure it is fully operational, calibrated and in good working order
  • Ensure any rejected items are logged in the Quality Management System
  • Complete stock transfers and other relevant actions when inspection is completed
  • Learn related skills to support your development in quality inspection, including:
  • Programming from a supplied model and drawing to allow semi-skilled FARO operator to measure components
  • Using FARO arm to reverse engineer selected components
  • Working with Engineering to produce ISIR reports
  • Downloading raw data from the FARO into ISIR templates and archive data
  • Increasing use and understanding of Polyworks software
  • On occasion carry out duties using relevant skills to assist shop floor team to meet company targets and objectives
  • Management of measuring equipment calibration process
  • Support with Customer returns initial inspection
  • Ability to use and train others on the best practises and usage of measuring equipment

Person Specification

Knowledge, Training and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Ability to gain a full understanding of the Standard Operating Procedures for the role
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of CMM/FARO arm inspection using Polyworks Inspector (or similar)
  • Computer literate

Desirable:

  • Trained in the use of hand measurement tools
  • Ability to read and draw information from engineering drawings/manuals
  • Knowledge of composite materials and other production techniques
  • Formal vocational qualification in relevant discipline

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Excellent hand eye coordination and manual dexterity

Desirable:

  • Experience producing structural composite components (RTM desirable or prepreg)
  • Experience working in fastmoving, qualityfocused technical environments (e.g. automotive, motorsport or aerospace)
