Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Leeds City Council Full time

Our purpose and motivation is simple 'to give our children the best experiences we can'.

We are set in the developing inner-city community of Harehills, we're lucky enough to serve the children that make Leeds a diverse metropolis of language and culture, with over 40 languages spoken, 730 children on roll and a staff team of 100 - we are not your ordinary school. Social mobility is an issue in Harehills; which is why we continuously set out to transform standards at Hovingham. We are committed to ensuring that every child in Harehills has access to the best possible education to nurture their individual potential. Team Hovingham thrives on challenge and opportunity, we work relentlessly to ensure our children make rapid progress and we give our children engaging, enriching educational experiences delivered through passion and care.

For our children with medical needs to participate fully in school life and achieve their potential, we are excited to recruit a new role of a Medical Support Assistant.

You'll be responsible for providing medical support to children with short, long and/or complex conditions and chronic illnesses. This can range from supporting children with type 1 diabetes who may need support to use their medical equipment or may need support in administering insulin to supporting children with asthma and allergies as well as administering medicine to children with a short term illness. In addition, there are children with downs syndrome or cerebral palsy who may need medical support. Being a team player, you will work with colleagues across school to support with interpreting medical information, supporting with the development of individual health care plans as well as liaising with parents.

This is an opportunity to bring all your skills and truly make a difference by giving our children the support they need to enable them to thrive in school.

Are you an ambitious, dedicated professional who is committed to supporting and providing care for children's needs. If so, this is the ideal post for you.

Day to day you will:

Support children with medical needs by administering medicine or supporting with medical equipment. Ensure all medical information for individual children is available and stored appropriately on the school's information management system. Liaise with colleagues so staff are aware of children with medical needs. Support with the development of Individual Health Care Plans and ensure they are reviewed and updated. Liaise regularly with the attendance team advising them on individual children's conditions and the potential impact on their attendance. Support with more serious first aid incidents liaising with parents, colleagues and emergency services.

After your first year with us, success would look like:

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of children's needs associated with their medical condition and/or chronic illness. Systematic approach to supporting children with medical conditions and/or chronic illnesses. Well informed staff and positive relationships with parents and other professionals. Be part of Team Hovingham, where your heart and mind will be firmly in Hovingham – understanding why we do what we do

We're open-minded and welcome all applicants who believe they would be a good fit. Though ideally, you will have:

Inclusive values which drive all you do. Have a passion and energy to care for our children with medical needs and/or conditions. Experience of working with children. Experience of working in a medical setting. Knowledge of school settings.

Ideally, working hours are 37 hours per week, term time only but we would welcome applications from anyone who may wish to work an alternative pattern e.g. 32.5 hours or 30 hours per week.

The closing date is 9am on Monday 10th June.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 13th June.
