Deputy Lead Midwife

The West Midlands Maternal Medicine Network Hub provides a range of support, advice and guidance, training and education to clinicians across the region who support women who are, wish to become, or have been recently pregnant - and who present with specific pre-existing diseases/conditions or develop symptoms and present in an acute setting.

This role will support the work of clinicians across the West Midlands, enabling better support for women, whatever the preferences or circumstances.


The hub midwife will provide advice & guidance to clinicians across the West Midlands and will support the delivery of tertiary multi-disciplinary team meetings reviewing women with a range of pre-existing or acute disease/conditions.

The role will support the development of consistent advice & guidance, training and education to maternity departments across the region in relation to women with the conditions listed below who are perinatal, or prior to starting a pregnancy.


To triage complex cases to appropriate MDTs and to ensure that women are not disadvantaged during their pregnancy for any non-medical reason.

The post holder may also engage in the development and delivery of training as part of the hub.


women with the following conditions/diseases who are, or wish to be pregnant: cardiac, respiratory, renal, haematological, rheumatological, endocrine, gastro-intestinal and liver, neurological, skin diseases and cancer and including acute illness where the underlying condition is not clear such as: headache, breathlessness, chest pain, abdominal pain, fever/sepsis.

Occasional travel around the WM may be necessary.


Whilst this post is cover for maternity leave, the successful applicant will be guaranteed a clinical post at BWC following completion of the fixed term contract.
