Midwifery Led Care Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate midwife to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a midwife, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, woman-centered care to women and their families.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, where you will have the chance to develop your skills and expertise in midwifery led care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide care to women with low-risk pregnancies, focusing on promoting physiological birth and empowering women to make informed decisions about their care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, woman-centered care to women with low-risk pregnancies
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote physiological birth and support women in their care decisions
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for women and their families
  • Supervise junior staff and provide education and training to qualified and unqualified staff
  • Participate in on-call duties and work flexible shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
Requirements
  • Registered Midwife on part 2 of the NMC Professional register
  • Completion of pre or post-registration midwifery programme
  • Ability to work autonomously within professional and Trust guidelines
  • Able to take the professional lead in caring for low-risk women
  • Knowledge of needs of high and low-risk women and neonates
  • Knowledge of child protection issues and when to take action
  • Knowledge to competently perform and interpret fetal heart auscultation, cardiotocography
  • Knowledge to safely use medical devices and other equipment required for practice
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical principles in midwifery for choice, consent, client autonomy
  • Knowledge to safely manage epidurals in labour
  • Understanding of risk management
  • Able to enter data on computer for notification of births, and patient records
  • Able to collect data for statistics audit
  • Able to use computer package to generate growth charts
