Job Title: Surgical Ward Nurse

An excellent opportunity is available to work on a 27-bed multi-speciality Emergency Surgical Ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. We are searching for a dedicated, motivated, and dynamic individual to uphold high standards of safe patient care in a friendly and proactive team environment.

At our hospital, we provide specialized training and encourage professional development to create a supportive learning atmosphere where staff can enrich their skills and knowledge.

If you are a newly qualified nurse, we offer support through our 1-year preceptorship program. For experienced nurses, development plans will be customized based on your needs, along with a specialized surgical competency passport.

If you are up for this challenge, possess excellent communication skills and are eager to work in an innovative environment, we welcome your application.

Shifts follow a 24/7 rotation of long days and nights to ensure service requirements are met.

Main Responsibilities

Adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct always. Supervising nursing team, ensuring care plans align with patient needs and current guidelines. Conducting patient assessments, including risk and falls assessments. Delivery of planned nursing care with patient and family input. Implementation and updating of care plans as needed. Promotion of health and illness prevention. Serving as a link nurse to other specialties. Participation in relevant audits for the ward area.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

Registered Nurse or pending confirmation for student nurses. Committed to ongoing professional development.

Desirable

Post-registration education (e.g., Mentorship, Intravenous drug administration).

Experience

Desirable

Post-registration experience, especially in surgical nursing.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential

Effective communication skills with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team. Ability to adjust communication style based on patient group and situation. Non-prejudicial patient care based on gender, religion, and disability.

Desirable

Capacity to work efficiently in a high-pressure acute ward environment. Familiarity with the NMC code of conduct to ensure patient safety and best practices.

Willingness to travel to other sites as required. Flexibility for internal rotation between day and night shifts.
