Construction Planner (FTTP):

Job description

Great British Communications (GBC) is a fast-paced telecoms business with a huge contract pipeline and ambitious growth plans.

We have recently secured a high-profile contract with Virgin Media which will see us expand their FTTP network to thousands of homes across the North West and North Wales, and are recruiting a Construction Planner to join our industry-leading team based in Widnes.

With responsibility for the build, management and daily maintenance of the construction programme, your role as Construction Planner will ensure the operations and commercial teams are fully aligned to the delivery plan and that programme submissions are compliant with NEC contractual guidelines.

You will lead on programme review sessions with internal stakeholders, and will own and update the programme risk and issue plan.

Day to day, this will include:

  • Building, managing and maintaining detailed construction programme(s) for FTTP delivery, monitoring progress and ensuring we are on track to achieving key milestones.
  • Submitting fortnightly programme updates into the client in line with NEC contractual clauses.
  • Updating the latest progress into the Microsoft Project schedule coordinating with Civils / Fibre supervisors on a daily basis.
  • Inputting risk/delays into the schedule, assessing the impact and reporting into the GBC project team
  • Capturing any early warnings, compensation events or project management instructions into the project schedule.
  • Working closely with the relevant Quantity Surveyor to ensure they are aligned with the programme for commercial forecasting.

As Construction Planner in the FTTP team at GBC, you will be a highly organised, detail-oriented person with excellent time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.

You will possess a strong understanding of contracts and SLAs, with good problem solving and negotiation skills, and the ability to drive results through planning the delivery of the project within the project timescales, making decisions and providing solutions.

In addition, you will possess the following technical skills:

  • Microsoft Project experience (essential)
  • Good level of IT skills including Excel, and other Microsoft packages
  • Experience of working in the telecommunications industry, preferrably in the same capacity
  • Ability to manipulate client tools/reports on a regular basis
