We are recruiting for a SWA on behalf of Hampshire covering the Havant area.

Social Work Assistants provide an invaluable role in the work of Hampshire Children's Services by supporting our Social Workers


You will be based in the busy Children's Reception Team processing referrals in respect of vulnerable children and young people.

As a confident communicator, you will work collaboratively with families and a wide range of professionals in order to improvethe outcomes for children and families.

This role will also include working closely with Ukrainian Refugees.

Role Responsibilities

  • Undertaking a range of relevant tasks and responsibilities as prioritised and deemed to be appropriate by the Team Manager, to support teams in fulfilling their duties.
  • Working in partnership with children, parents, carers and professionals.
  • Using mediation and negotiation skills to support young people and their parents/carers in improving their relationships.
  • Make sound recommendations based on the referral information received in line with the Hampshire Safeguarding Children Board and Children's Trust Thresholds Chart and confidently identify the risks and strengths.
  • Experience of working in a busy, fast paced environment with changing priorities

Essential Experience:

  • You will have a good knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children and young people
  • Be able to identify risks that impact on their wellbeing and safety
  • Experience of working with children, young people and families in a safeguarding environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are desirable as is the ability to engage with children, families and professionals.
  • Literacy, numeracy and I.T. skills are essential part of the role.

Working Conditions include:

  • 37 hours week Monday to Friday (8:30am 5pm)
- £23 per hour (umbrella rate)

  • Hybrid Working to include home working and face to face visits
  • Part Time hours considered
