Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom Norfolk & Suffolk Foundation NHS Trust Full time

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed assistant psychologist for the new Therapeutic Interventions for Distressing unusual Experiences Service (TIDES). TIDES are the at-risk mental state (ARMS) team for Norfolk & Waveney, sitting in the wider Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service. TIDES is in its infancy, but as the service takes shape it will provide preventative mental health support to young people aged 14-35 years old who are at risk of developing psychosis with a view to preventing or delaying the transition to psychosis. The successful candidate will join the service at an exciting time as we continue to develop. Within TIDES, you will be joining a Principal Clinical Psychologist, Systemic Psychotherapist, Community Team Manager, trainee CBT therapists, Care Coordinators, Clinical Support Workers and a Vocational Worker.

The wider Norfolk & Waveney EIP teams are part of Specialist Services in NSFT. EIP offers assessment and treatment for people aged 14-65 years with a first episode of psychosis, in line with the NHS England Access and Waiting Time Standard. EIP in Norfolk and Waveney has undergone significant expansion over the last five years following funding from NHS England so that these standards can be achieved. As part of the wider EIP service, you will be part of a thriving MDT with clinical psychologists, psychological therapists, assistant psychologists, case managers, nurses and psychiatrists.

Main duties of the job

This role will develop and change over time, but will initially focus on assessments under supervision, data collection, analysis and service evaluation. It is expected that this will expand to include working with individuals clinically both one-to-one and in groups, and administering and scoring psychometric measures with a view to validating existing scales against assessment measures such as the CAARMS. The post would suit someone with a strong research background, who would be looking to develop or build on their skills in clinical practice. The TIDES base is currently in Norwich at County Hall, though the post will involve travel across Norfolk and Waveney. As part of the wider EIP teams across Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Waveney and Kings Lynn, there may also be the opportunity to assist in delivering group psychological interventions with the wider early intervention population.

As part of the selection process, we would like candidates to write a brief essay (of no more than 500 words) with the title, "Why is it important to provide a service for people experiencing are experiencing at-risk mental states, and how might this differ from an early intervention service?" The essay should be written at the start of the supporting statement and should be followed by a supporting statement of no more than 500 words. Please note that applications that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered for shortlisting.

About us

Supervision will be provided by the Principal Clinical Psychologist. There will also be opportunities for continuing professional development, including attendance at regular training events, team case discussion and reflective practice groups. The Norfolk and Waveney EIP service has clinical and research links with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of East Anglia (UEA).

Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work and we need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established professional networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.

We're an hour and a half away from London and have an international airport in Norwich too. Our villages, towns and cities are packed full of history, independent cafes, shops and theatres. We have excellent shopping, eating out, top ranking schooling and affordable house prices too.
