Job overview:

Band 4 Assistant Psychologist (1.0 wte) 18 months fixed term post in Northeast and Northwest Adult Community Mental Health Teams (North Norfolk and Norwich Care Group)


Applications must have excellent literacy and numeracy skills, a psychology degree with 2.1 or above and be eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Travel is part of the role and being a car driver is essential.

Our service caters for adults over the age of 26 with complex or enduring mental health needs. The post is based at Hellesdon Hospital Norwich.

The role will involve working within the community teams to deliver psychologically informed interventions, with a focus on short term, intensive work alongside some longer-term pieces of work.

It is envisaged that there will be opportunities for both individual and group work and that some work will be community based.


There would be opportunities for service-related research and audit, as well as the chance to undertaking some teaching and training for non-psychologist colleagues.

You would receive weekly supervision from a qualified psychologist.

As a department we have close links to the clinical psychology doctoral training programme at the UEA and have supported previous assistant psychologist onto the clinical training.

Enthusiasm, warmth and experience of working with people are desired attributes.

Main duties of the job:

The role will involve delivering psychologically informed interventions under weekly supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist. There will be opportunities for both individual and group work, as well as service-related research and audit. You will have a chance to undertake some inhouse training and co-facilitate teaching for psychology and non-psychology colleagues.


In our service we highly value personal growth and professional development, and as a department we have close links to the clinical psychology doctoral training programme at the UEA and have supported our previous assistant psychologists onto clinical training.

Previous experience of working with mental health presentations are desired attributes.
