London, Greater London, United Kingdom Hachette Children's Group Full time

Who we are and what we do

Hachette Children's Group is one of the UK's largest children's publishers. Our mission is to make it easy for children and young people everywhere to access books and see themselves reflected. We aim to maximise our readers' life chances by inspiring a lifelong love of reading, publishing books for every stage of their journey to adulthood from Enid Blyton to Alice Oseman's Heartstopper.

Hachette Children's Group is a division of Hachette, one of the largest publishing groups in the UK, with 12 publishing divisions and over 60 imprints. Everyone here is proud to be in the business of opening doors and minds.

What you'll be doing

This role will be primarily responsible for leading the Wren & Rook non-fiction list, delivering strategies for commercial growth, overseeing the Wren & Rook editorial team and commissioning lead titles for the list.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a talented, highly motivated individual with significant experience of working in trade non-fiction publishing. We value imagination, ambition and collaboration, and are looking for somebody who can demonstrate exceptional editorial service to authors, author-illustrators and their agents. You will need to be an energetic self-starter, confident in leading projects and meetings, and solutions-driven when handling challenging conversations.

You will be an experienced non-fiction publishing professional who is an enthusiastic champion of your books – from acquisition through to publication and beyond – who is a great communicator, often collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.

You will have strong relationships within the industry and a track record of proactively seeking out and shaping new projects, both via literary agents and more widely. You will be responsible for commissioning a selection of our lead titles and leading on our biggest pitches.

There will be some management support of junior team members and you will be expected to be a visible leader, communicating and embedding the imprint's strategy, while identifying opportunities for the editorial team to pursue.

Applicants should have excellent editorial skills and a keen understanding of the children's and non-fiction market. Proven success in acquiring and publishing commercial non-fiction is essential. You might be an experienced Editorial Director ready to step up, or an existing Publishing Director looking for a new challenge.

Knowledge of Biblio would be a bonus.
