About Ladybird
Ladybird is renowned for its popular series like Ten Minutes to Bed, Baby Touch, Topsy and Tim, and the award-winning author–illustrator Kim Hillyard. Our range caters to children aged 0–7, featuring touch-and-feel books for infants, successful novelty series like Uh-Oh Niko, preschool picture books, as well as acclaimed non-fiction titles such as My Skin, Your Skin and Everything Under the Sun.
The Golden Opportunity
Your mission is to collaborate closely with the Editorial Director to expand our collection, focusing on discovering new talent for picture books, creating fresh novelty series, and enhancing our non-fiction offerings. We seek a highly skilled senior-editorial professional with expertise in both novelty and picture books, a strong grasp of the UK and international markets, and superb negotiation skills with solid relationships in the industry. Reporting to the Publishing Director, you'll work in tandem to shape the future of our collection, leading a team of editors and collaborating closely with our Art Director and design team on new projects and series.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The perfect candidate will be well-versed in preschool literature, possess market insight, and a proven track record in developing successful novelty series and picture-book talent. They should have an extensive network of author and agent connections, exceptional negotiation abilities, and ideally, experience in non-fiction and managerial roles. We are seeking a proactive individual capable of making an immediate impact, contributing new ideas, and working across various formats to enrich our collection.
This role involves collaborating with external authors, writers, and agents, as well as internal teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, necessitating strong communication skills, flexibility, proactive thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. The ideal candidate should be an empowering, inclusive leader with a strategic vision, creativity, and inspiration in their publishing concepts, capable of balancing long-term objectives with immediate needs while rallying the team together.

Flexible working: We are exploring a hybrid work model that meets the needs of our teams. While our offices are hubs for collaboration and connection, we understand the importance of flexibility in work locations. For this role, you will be based in our London office at Embassy Gardens, attending key meetings and working with the team three days a week, and remotely on other days.
