Reporting to the Group Vice President and aligned with the mission of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Resident Camp Executive Director is accountable for overseeing a diverse, high-quality resident camp at Camp Kekoka.


Key responsibilities include:
  • Establishing and maintaining a strong center advisory board in collaboration with the APYC Board of Directors.
  • Boosting the center's Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Developing community relations and partnerships.

The Director ensures compliance with regulations, prioritizes training, and manages risks related to program safety.

The primary focus should be on budgeting, nurturing community relationships, fostering staff and board development, driving philanthropic efforts, and expanding programs.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Y-USA Multi-Team Leader Certification (or equivalent) is mandatory within two years of employment, with progress starting within 6 months.
  • At least five years of experience in business operations, community engagement, relationship management, and program development, with a preference for multi-site experience.
  • Proficiency in fiscal management, financial growth, and running an annual campaign is essential.
  • Strong motivation to consistently achieve or surpass goals, and the ability to attract and retain stakeholders effectively.
  • Quick rapport-building skills and the capacity to form productive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Expertise in multitasking, adapting to changing circumstances, and managing diverse priorities.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities, utilizing data effectively for decision-making.
  • Understanding, adapting to, and collaborating with diverse teams, individuals, and cultures.
  • Competence in using email, Internet, and PC-based applications, along with a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Medical Administration Training Certification within the initial 60 days of employment and kept up-to-date.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 to be obtained within 60 days of hiring.
  • Completion of mandatory training sessions including New Employee Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, and Sexual Harassment.
  • Successful clearance of criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.
