Job Introduction

The Assistant Commissioner is vital in the commissioning process. You will develop a robust commissioning pipeline and assist in all new ideas with excellent editorial judgement and tact.

You will liaise with outside companies and BBC commissioners across the Nations and Regions to ensure that Arts and Classical Music is getting the very best ideas.

You will analyse audience data to develop new opportunities and will also develop brilliant digital ideas to reach new audiences.

Main Responsibilities


As an effective first point of contact for suppliers, you'll be able to handle rejections with tact, respond to queries, progressing ideas as appropriate, and providing feedback in a timely manner.

You will ensure the strategy is delivered with each commission, and that quotas and strategic Genre objectives are met.

  • You are able to demonstrate your extensive knowledge of TV production
  • Have worked at Series Producer level or above
  • Take a creative approach to commissioning
  • Recognise the power of digital and social media in commissioning
  • A good advocate and able to communicate with partners, suppliers and internal management
  • Comfortable with public advocacy
  • Able to effectively liaise with sector partners to promote programming
