Job Description

The role of Hearing Centre Support Officer is within the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC).

The Traffic Commissioners (TC) are tasked with overseeing the licensing and regulation of GB based operators of heavy and light goods vehicles engaged in international transport, as well as buses and coaches (public service vehicles) and their drivers, the registration of local bus services, handling appeals against the impounding of vehicles operated without a valid operator’s license, and other related functions.

You will collaborate with a team to offer assistance to the independently appointed Traffic Commissioner (TC) in carrying out their legal duties regarding the licensing and regulation of goods and public service vehicle operators and vocational driving license holders.

Specifically, the role entails preparing cases for public inquiry and managing post-hearing case administration to ensure all necessary case documents are available to the TC and relevant parties.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Follow the statutory guidelines and instructions of the Senior Traffic Commissioner and the relevant Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and dispatch of comprehensive call-up letters and briefs in accordance with OTC procedures and Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Act as the clerk at public inquiries.
  • Distribute an accurate record of the Traffic Commissioner’s decisions or written directions to all relevant parties in compliance with the SLA, taking necessary actions as instructed.
  • Handle phone and written inquiries positively, abiding by data protection regulations, delegated authority, and statutory guidelines and instructions.
  • Efficiently fulfill your responsibilities in alignment with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) policies and processes, ensuring timely completion of daily tasks and objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from various departments for the benefit of OTC/DVSA, aiming to establish a high-performing and reputable Agency.
  • Communicate with internal and external departments to meet customer needs and ensure clear communication throughout the organization.

Additional Information

Please be aware that DVSA does not possess a UK Visa & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker License sponsor and cannot sponsor individuals for Skilled Worker Sponsorship.

This position will be located in Eastbourne, and your presence at this site will be part of the agreed working arrangements. We follow a hybrid working model, with an expectation for you to spend a minimum of 60% of your time on a DVSA site or official business, offering flexibility in your work location and schedule.

Although we consider applications for part-time roles, successful candidates should be prepared to work a minimum of 30 hours per week due to business needs.

Please note that candidates for this role should anticipate travel and overnight stays as required by business operations.

Person Specification

To excel in this role, you must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, capable of drafting complex submissions and letters within a legislative framework.
