Basic Objectives of the Post
(a) To support the Cook in the effective operation of the Kitchen.
(b) To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the Kitchen.
Please note that a check will be made with the Criminal Records Bureau which will include a check on the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list, to ascertain suitability for work in a care setting.
1 To assist the Cook in the preparation and serving of meals as required.
2 To keep all equipment clean.
3 To ensure that all work surfaces and tables are kept clean and tidy.
4 To ensure that the floor is kept free from grease or other slip and trip hazards at all times.
5 To wash-up pots, pans and cooking utensils as used.
6 To assist the Kitchen and Dining Room Assistant with washing up between pm.
7 To launder tea towels, cloths etc at the end of the shift.
8 To dispose of all kitchen waste in the appropriate containers.
9 To carry out cleaning duties as set out in schedules or as and when necessary. Keeping any records of cleaning carried out in the kitchen or associated areas, as required.
10 To be aware of the client's dietary needs and respond to their comments and requests in respect of the menu.
Legislation or the Home's policies and procedures.
12 To attend relevant training sessions, supervisions and staff meetings.
13 To hold a suitable and current food hygiene certificate.
14 To work as part of the staff team.
The above mentioned duties give an indication of the work required but do not exclude other duties of a reasonable nature which may be requested by the manager or other designated deputies.
Health and Safety at Work
- To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down under the Health & Safety at Work Act applicable to your place of work.
- To be aware of and comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSH) requirements. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards at your place of work. You will also be required to comply with manufacturer instructions regarding the storage and use of their products.
- The wearing of appropriate protective clothing and PPE as recommended by the Home.
