Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivated persons, who enjoy working with children and their families to join our friendly and progressive teams on our medical and surgical wards. (We care for children 0-18 years)

Ward 1 is a 24 bedded surgical ward caring for children with a wide range of surgical conditions including Urology, Gastro, ENT, Ophthalmology & Maxillofacial. We also, on occasion, have medical outliers of all specialties.

Ward 5 Neurosciences Ward - has capacity to care for up to 9 patients, requiring neurosurgical & neurology support on an inpatient basis, and pre- admission clinic.

Ward 4 care for children between the ages of 0-18 years with a wide range of medical conditions. During the Winter months the ward primarily care for younger children with a range of respiratory viruses

Ward 3 care for children between the ages of 0-18 years with a wide range of emergency and elective medical conditions.

MDC (medical day care) and OPD (outpatient department) is a Monday to Friday service, caring for day case speciality patients.

There will be an opportunity to develop practical nursing skills to enable the successful candidate/s to assist qualified nurses in the delivery of care to children and their families.

Main duties of the job

You will assist qualified nurses in the delivery of care to children and their families. You will need excellent communication & organisational skills & will be able to work well with all members of the multidisciplinary teams in providing excellent care to patients & families.

The registered nurse holds responsibility for initial assessment of the patient and planning that patient's care. They will delegate the duties as appropriate to the Clinical Support Worker who will work independently or alongside trained staff to deliver all aspects of clinical care, within clearly defined limits, and attainment of defined competence. Responsibility also includes clerical and administrative duties, including IT processes, stock maintenance and care, & cleaning and management of equipment. Maintenance and support of an environment for safe effective care. The shift patterns involve working a mix of days and nights shifts, as well as weekends

Job responsibilities

This generic job description outlines the primary role and responsibilities of a Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker. It is not exhaustive and may be amended from time to time as the needs of the service change. As this contains core functions of the role, it is important to note that some service areas may have additional skill requirements which are subject to competency-based assessments.

There is an expectation for you to be flexible in order to provide cover to other clinical areas where there is an increase in service demand.

The Clinical Support Worker will be expected to:

Work alongside or independently with qualified nurses or practitioners, including medical staff or the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of individualised care to children, young people and their families. You will need excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work well with all members of the multidisciplinary teams to enable everyone to provide excellent care to patients and families. Candidates must have NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualifications and have current or recent experience in a health and social care setting, or hospital environment, working with young children, young people and their families. Carry out all duties in a professional, compassionate and courteous manner. Demonstrate own duties to new or less experienced staff members and when delegated carry out training and assessments of their level of competence. Ensure that no action or omission on your part is detrimental to the condition, safety, wellbeing and interest of the patients and families.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

GCSE A-C English or Level 2 equivalent. GCSE A-C Maths or Level 2 equivalent. Vocational Award Level 2 in Health To have or be committed to undertaking & completing a Vocational Award Level 3 in Health. To hold evidence of completing a Care Certificate or have completed in-house Band 2 competency package. Committed to completing competency packages as per clinical area.

To have experience in a Care or Health & Social Care environment within a hospital or community setting Worked in a customer facing environment
