Ward 6 is a 16 bed ward caring for children aged 0-18 with oncology and haematology conditions and their families.

Our philosophy enhances family centred care, working in partnership with parents & carers & the wider multi-disciplinary team. There will be an opportunity to develop practical nursing skills to assist qualified nurses in the delivery of care to children & their families. You will need excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work well with all members of the multidisciplinary teams, to provide excellent care to patients & families.

Candidates must have NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualifications and have current or recent experience in a health & social care setting/hospital environment, working with young children, young people and their families.

Main duties of the job

You will assist qualified nurses in the delivery of care to children and their families. You will need excellent communication & organisational skills & will be able to work well with all members of the multidisciplinary teams in providing excellent care to patients & families.

The registered nurse holds responsibility for initial assessment of the patient and planning that patient's care. They will delegate the duties as appropriate to the Senior Clinical Support Worker who will work independently or alongside trained staff to deliver all aspects of clinical care, within clearly defined limits, and attainment of defined competence. Responsibility also includes clerical and administrative duties, including IT processes, stock maintenance and care, & cleaning and management of equipment. Maintenance and support of an environment for safe effective care.

Job responsibilities

The Senior Clinical Support Worker will be expected to:

Work alongside or independently with qualified nurses or practitioners, including medical staff or the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of individualised care to children, young people and their families. Carry out all duties in a professional, compassionate and courteous manner. Demonstrate own duties to new or less experienced staff members and when delegated carry out training and assessments of their level of competence. Ensure that no action or omission on your part is detrimental to the condition, safety, wellbeing and interest of the patients and families.
