Job overview

Are you looking for a role where you can earn while you learn? We are seeking Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprentices to join us:

Pharmacy technicians are registered professionals working within the regulatory standards for pharmacy as set by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Our Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician Apprentices undertake a -year distance learning training programme with the University of East Anglia with lots of support from our dedicated and experienced training team. You will attend a virtual training to study for the coursework for your Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice.

To be eligible to apply for the Pre-registration Trainee Apprentice, you will need GCSE's at grade C/ or above including Maths, English and science (or a combined science award with one qualification at C/ or above plus another GCSE). Maths and English Functional skills levels can also be accepted. Pharmacy experience is not essential but would be desirable but a NVQ in pharmacy is not an alternative to the academic requirements above. Proof of the above qualifications will be requested at interview.

Main duties of the job

Attached you will find the person specification document which provides more detail about the essential and desirable skills and experience needed for this role. We highly recommend you review this document and use it when completing your application as these criteria are used by hiring managers as guidance during shortlisting.

Main duties under supervision include:

• Providing medications to inpatients, wards and patients visiting outpatient clinics

• Communicating with OUH staff and patients at our reception or via the telephone

• Using the pharmacy computer systems

• Counselling patients on medications

• Answering medicine queries in our medicines information department

• Working alongside a medicines management technician on wards

• Working in the cancer satellite pharmacy and clinical trials team

We are looking for hardworking and enthusiastic people who are interested in a healthcare career which has varied rotations and gives you a grounding in all aspects of pharmacy technician roles in hospital. We expect you to commit to the -year training programme, including all practical and academic aspects, supported by your excellent organisational skills.

Working for our organisation

OUHFT employees can access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

We also provide daily study time to ensure we help you to achieve your full potential, but we also expected you to be committed to studying outside of work time.

This is a practical course alongside a Level academic qualification based mainly at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals in Oxford working per week Monday to Friday with a one in six weekend commitment, late duty commitment and working one Bank Holiday a year.
