The Apprentice Intelligence Officer will contribute to the receipt, analysis, sanitisation and delivery of high-quality intelligence information to colleagues in Trading Standards to enable them to deliver a successful service to the businesses and residents of Essex.

Whilst undertaking an apprenticeship within Essex County Council, you can expect to be supported from your first day. You'll be invited to attend a specific onboarding event, have access to exclusive training material via My Learning platform, enrolled in the Apprenticeship Channel alongside colleagues on similar paths, invited to frequent gatherings, and offered peer-to-peer guidance. Additionally, you will have the chance to showcase your apprenticeship experience to external audiences. Apprenticeships are a valued career pathway to achieving your ambitions within Essex County Council, whilst gaining a qualification.

Our Level 4 Intelligence Analyst Apprenticeship is a higher-level apprenticeship which is equivalent to a foundation degree, a Higher National Certificate (HNC), or the first year of an undergraduate degree. As an Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced professionals to develop a solid foundation in Trading Standards, while also contributing to the overall goals and objectives of the Essex County Council.

The Apprentice Intelligence Officer will collaborate with the team to ensure alignment to ECC's strategic aims and objectives. The role will work in proximity with colleagues with the aim of developing knowledge and skills in intelligence analysis and Trading Standards to inform future strategies. You will play an integral role in supporting organisational objectives through a wide range of activities such as planning projects. Working collaboratively, flexibly and effectively communicating with people across the wider council, this role presents an opportunity to learn, whilst progressing towards a recognised professional qualification.

About You:

Educated to RQF level 3 ('A' Levels), including Math's and English to at least level NVQ 2, or equivalent by experience Ability to develop skills, knowledge and experience in a work environment Good organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to colleagues in a concise, factual and unambiguous manner Ability to base findings on factual evidence and accurate data in an impartial manner Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team Ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful, considerate and diplomatic manner Have experience of working with IT systems including Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new systems is important. Excellent Excel capability including query building and bringing data together from different sources Possess excellent numerical, analytical skills with the ability to organise and prioritise own work to meet deadlines

Essential Requirements for the role:

Educated to a minimum of A Level / T Level, or completed a Level 3 apprenticeship, or hold Level 3 NVQ/SVQ Qualification, or BTEC qualification Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (or equivalent), which is a Grade D/E or 2/3 to begin the apprenticeship Ability to reach a Level 2 Functional Skills in both Maths & English by the End Point Assessment (EPA), if you do not already have this Have the right to work and study in England Have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for three years before the apprenticeship start date

What will you be doing?

Contribute to the collation, evaluation, sanitisation and dissemination of intelligence information in accordance with the National Intelligence Model, to enable effective service planning and allocation of Trading Standards resources Work with the Intelligence Coordinator to liaise with partners across the regulatory, statutory, voluntary, community and business sectors, to receive and disseminate intelligence Work closely with the Intelligence Coordinator by researching, analysing, evaluating and interpreting a range of data relating to need and supply intelligence products, to support Trading Standards to reach evidence-based recommendations Contribute to identifying gaps in current knowledge and understanding of problems causing consumer detriment in Essex Contribute to the maintenance of efficient and effective intelligence systems to support the delivery of a modern trading standards service Support the Intelligence Coordinator at partner meetings (such as Essex Police Tasking), to represent Trading Standards sharing and gathering intelligence Contribute to other areas of Trading Standards work where a contribution can be made in the reduction of crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour, improving health and wellbeing and promoting a fair trading environment throughout the County of Essex Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
