The Head of Media leads the media function within CISL's Corporate Relations, Communications and Marketing team, shaping strategy and providing leadership and direction to teams across the Institute.


This senior role directly contributes to CISL's long-term growth and strategic impact, working to protect and enhance the organisation's public profile.


You will be highly proactive, offering ideas on how to tell stories which show impact locally, nationally, and globally, and spotting trends and opportunities.


You will take the lead in directly engaging senior media on issues which matter, building and strengthening relationships with sector journalists and other external stakeholders.

You will work on some of the world's biggest issues; climate change, nature restoration and the role of business and government in shaping a sustainable future.


We are looking for an ambitious senior media professional who can help support the development of CISL's strategic communications outreach.

This critical role will help us reach wider and more diverse audiences, informing public debate on climate change and nature, and driving change within the economy.


Key skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level (preferably with an English or Communications degree) and/or possess an equivalent professional journalism/PR qualification.
  • Experience leading a busy and highperforming media team within a large, complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of and interest in climate change and sustainability issues especially within business, policy and finance sectors.
  • Able to demonstrate ideas and proactivity, with the energy and knowledge to make those ideas happen.
  • Impeccable news judgement and the ability to spot opportunities and risks.
  • Significant experience of building effective networks including across organisational boundaries & excellent network of contacts.
  • Excellent communication skills able to write quickly, clearly and accurately under pressure for a variety of audiences.
  • Understanding of all forms of media, including digital media and broadcast.
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to lead on several issues at once and to work under pressure and consistently at pace.
  • Supportive and empathetic leader who supports and encourages their team and develops their skills.
  • Excellent organisational, timekeeping and prioritisation skills, with a good ability to work to tight deadlines.
