Birchwood Charity is a leading provider of support services for vulnerable individuals. We are committed to empowering young people to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Our Foyer Supported Accommodation provides a safe and supportive environment for young people aged 16 to 24.

Job Overview:

This role involves providing emotional and mental health support, delivering counselling services, and promoting overall wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oneonone emotional and mental health support to young people residing in the Foyer.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' mental health needs and develop individualised support plans.
  • Deliver one to one sessions tailored to the needs of young people, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and selfesteem.
  • Facilitate group sessions and wellbeing workshops to promote peer support and mental health awareness.
  • Work collaboratively with other support workers, housing staff, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to each young person's care.
  • Assist serviceusers in developing coping strategies, resilience, and life skills to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regular supervision and professional development opportunities to maintain and enhance counselling skills and knowledge.
  • Advocate for the mental health and wellbeing needs of young people.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of mental health and wellbeing programmes and initiatives within Birchwood Charity.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience in providing one to one and mental health support to individuals with diverse needs.
  • Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting young people, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and selfharm.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with young people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical guidelines and best practices.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a supported accommodation setting.
  • Knowledge of local mental health resources and referral pathways.
  • Additional training or certification in specific therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, DBT, traumainformed care).
