Overview of your organisation

The contract to supply student health services for Kings College London started on 1st September 2001. The Student Health Centre at the Strand provides a service for King's College students and staff with full-time nursing cover and GP surgeries. It works alongside other student service provision within the College which includes counselling, psychotherapy, welfare and information interfacing with the Accommodation and Careers Advisory services.

To display effective word processing, database andspreadsheet skills by:

Having and retaining a high level of typing ability

Having an ability to input data accurately andquickly

Collaborating with other administrative staff toestablish and maintain a filing system for word processed documents

Being literate and numerate in all communicationsincluding taking and passing on messages, including message books and e-mail

Ensuring confidentiality of patient records as perthe agreed local protocol

Implementing appropriate filing systems agreed withthe team

Using photocopier effectively

Reporting any IT concerns to your manager

Scanning letters

To work with other staff to develop and implementan appropriate and efficient administration system by:

Learning and maintaining a working knowledge of theclinical system (SystmOne)

Scanning patient letters in to patients medicalrecords via the workflow system

Ability to take messages accurately and able toprioritise these to support patient needs

Reporting to your manager any operational problemswith the appointments system

Maintaining patient records by creating,maintaining and filing when necessary, locating missing notes and returningnotes to the Health Authority when requested

Following the protocol which concerns the opening,processing and dispatching of mail

Calling for ambulances as requested by the nursingand medical staff.

Assisting with some secretarial tasks as needed.

Being positive and forthcoming at offeringassistance

Introducing yourself, answering face to faceenquiries respectfully and responding to telephone enquiries promptly andproactively

Recognising and responding to service users whohave communication barriers

Promoting the use of interpreters or sign languagetranslators where spoken English is a barrier

Supporting the practice complaints procedure anddealing with any issues that arise

Displaying effective relationships will colleaguesboth within and outside the practice by:

Understanding and respecting other peoplescontribution to the service

Contributing to staff meetings

Team working skills

Contributing to the smooth running of the admin andreception team by:

Supporting and contributing to an inductionprogramme for any new staff either admin or clinical

Reporting any accidents and incidents and anybreaches of health and safety to your manager.

Communicating with and supporting colleagues.

Maintaining the security of the Health Centre
