About the Post


Reporting directly to the Director of Estates, the Head of Facilities and Estates Management will implement, lead, and shape the University's approach to service delivery, service partner service delivery and safety management.

To enhance the campus experience wellbeing and safety of our academicians, staff, students, visitors, and buildings. You will be led on for developing a new Service and FM Strategy for the University of Suffolk.

You will be part of the Estates leadership team and one that will lead on promoting our approach to service excellence and further embed the service culture within the workplace.


Within this multi-faceted role, you will be a trusted advisor, providing strategic advice at the most senior level of the organisation and providing pragmatic guidance to all staff advising on such matters as compliance and building projects.


No two days at the University of Suffolk are the same so lateral thinking to overcome complex issues must go hand in hand.


About the Team


The University owns and operates buildings comprising an internal area of 17,713.85m2 which are used to deliver the University's core activities of teaching, research and business engagement.

This includes teaching rooms, laboratories, offices, student breakout and social spaces, and catering. The campus also has areas occupied by our partner organisations under agreement. In addition, the University currently leases office space in two adjacent buildings for management and professional services.


The University also owns land on or adjacent to the Ipswich Waterfront suitable for development including new build proposals comprising 3.2 acres.


The Estates team perform a wide range of tasks to support the University in delivering its mission from the management of hard and soft services across the estate, to the support and installation of exhibitions and the development and realisation of major capital projects.

The University is a dynamic workplace and the estates team is charged with swiftly and seamlessly enabling the University to deliver on its aims and aspirations

About You
You are an experienced, customer focused and confident manager.

You will bring deep experience as a FM and Project manager within a public facing buildings or similar environment; you will demonstrate a proactive style and show yourself to be a manager who leads from the front with the know-how to develop and imbed policies, practices, systems to deliver a compliant building and workplace.

Alongside of this, you will demonstrate an advanced understanding of relevant regulations and ISO accreditation requirements.

You are a confident leader of teams who knows what best-practice looks like but also have a pragmatic eye for delivering operational efficiency in a creative environment.


You are solutions driven - you have the confidence to challenge colleagues but also the pragmatism to drive towards a positive outcome for all.

A team player and resourceful problem-solver, you will possess the ability to respond quickly and effectively in pressurised situations. Confident, personable and diplomatic, you will have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. You have the same shade values. You keep up to date with relevant legislative changes which affect areas of compliance and your Role.


You will oversee the Institution's hard and soft facilities management services, which are provided both in-house and outsourced, on a strategic and operational level.


The post holder will lead the team that manage the premises, people and procedures for Facilities and Estates management, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements.

You will work with colleagues to ensure that robust policies are in place for compliance with statutory regulations and lead the in-house FM team.
