The role


The People team at GoCardless is on a mission to make the experience for our employees an irresistible journey and as an ER Specialist you will play an essential role in us achieving this.

We're looking for someone who will demonstrate a true passion for the teams they support, and who is driven by a desire to influence through data.

You will report into our Head of People Partnering and will work closely with the Partnering team to support managers and employees maintain positive working relationships across the organisation.

The role presents a real opportunity to own and define our approach to employee relations and build out scalable processes to meet the needs of our growing business.


What excites you

  • Resolving and managing generalist type queries for managers and employees (e.g. probationary reviews, policy advice, sickness absence, career development)
  • Being the first point of contact and specialist advisor for all employee relations issues including performance improvement plans, advising on grievances and disciplinary meetings
  • Analysing business related people data to identify ER related trends with a view to designing solutions to manage potential future risks or challenges
  • Providing regular reports to continually monitor insights from employee data sources including the Engagement Survey and Exit Survey data
  • Identifying, owning and driving ER projects that will strategically bolster employee relations as a centre of excellence; build the backbone of the ER framework that will scale with our growing business
  • Proactively reviewing and monitoring the capability of our managers to ensure they have the resources and skills needed to effectively manage their teams; working closely with the People Partners and Talent & Development team to design and implement initiatives to support this
  • You'll mainly cover the UK but this is a global role that will be advising and supporting employees in the US, Australia, France and Latvia.

What excites us

  • Solid employee relations experience at advisory level in a fastpaced, ambiguous, highgrowth or progressive environment
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law in the UK plus a baseline understanding for our other international geos with a desire to continually broaden this knowledge
  • Ability to manage varied and complex casework and tactfully and discreetly deal with varied and sensitive situations
  • Confidence to proficiently use HR data to take a holistic view of emerging trends in order to preempt future challenges
  • Coaching skills to guide and support managers through often challenging and emotive situations
  • A customer service mindset, with a relentless focus on the employee experience and drive to continually improve
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at once and achieve against tight deadlines
  • Strong influencing and communication skills in order to collaborate, build relationships and manage stakeholders
  • Understanding of organisational culture and ability to adapt to meet the needs of your audience
  • Creative, proactive problem solver who deals effectively with change and ambiguity
  • French speaker desirable
