Trainee Psychological Therapist in Cbt for Psychosis

CAMEO is an award-winning CPFT Early Intervention in psychosis service offering an age inclusive service years) across a three-year pathway with an integrated At risk mental state (ARMS) service.

We have an exciting opportunity to offer 1 recruit to train post for a CBTp therapist in our dynamic early intervention service based in Peterborough (CAMEO North).


This role is a 2-year fixed term appointment leading to a permanent CBTp practitioner post (Band 7) at the end of this period if the postgraduate diploma programme is completed successfully.


The post holder will attend this training once a week and spend the other four days working within the service.

To pass the course the post holder will need to complete written assignments and take some recordings of their therapy cases to discuss in clinical supervision and with course tutors.

The post
- holder will work in the service for -4 days of the week using the newly developed skills whilst attending the training programme for the other day.


This role will include psychological assessment and individualised, formulation-driven interventions within a CBT framework as part service user's overall multi-disciplinary team care plan.


Therapeutic interventions will be delivered in line with the National Institute of Clinical Excellence Quality Standards for Early Intervention in Psychosis Services and across the whole caseload which will include individuals with At Risk Mental States and those experiencing their First Episode of Psychosis.

Our clinical teams deliver many NHS services, not only via inpatient and primary care settings, but also within the community.

These services include children's, adult and older people's mental health, forensic and specialist mental health, learning disabilities, primary care and liaison psychiatry, substance misuse, social care, research and development.

To work within an appropriate mental health setting(s) alongside other professions and agencies including within multi-disciplinary teams and specialised clinical settings.

To carry out complex psychological assessments sensitively and independently with a broad range of client groups.

To accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.

To assess clients for suitability for CBT. Where the problems appear to be too complex or severe to be appropriate for a trainee therapist, to refer to
manager/supervisor for advice on how to manage the case.


To make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department's referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.

To formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients.


To educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.


Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
