Wiltshire CAMHS SPA is excited to launch this newly created Band - Support Worker full time post; the role will support the well-established clinical and administrative team who are based at Melksham Hospital.


To support the development of the role this will be fixed term contract for one year with a view to permanency upon the anniversary of appointment.

The post holder will join the SPA team who are responsible for all referrals and enquiries for children and young people (CYP) across our three Wiltshire CAMHS teams.

As the main point of contact the SPA team is instrumental in gathering more information and co-ordinating the appropriate care at the right time by the right service/pathway.

The post holder will have a varied role in the team, ranging from:

  • Providing telephone calls to CYP, Parent/Carers to gather more information to support qualified clinicians in their role.
  • Creating individualised advice and guidance letters to CYP, Parent/Carers and other referrers.
  • Support clinical staff in various education settings across Wiltshire; specifically, around groups and training.
  • Taking a lead role in maintaining our existing signposting directory via collaboration with wider stakeholders.
  • We are passionate about forging links with our community partner agencies and with our participation group network; we require the successful applicant to engage with such networks where possible.


The successful applicant can expect a comprehensive induction programme, including a range of shadowing opportunities to fully support the post holder in the role and ongoing in-house training.

The team fully supports and delivers regular managerial, peer, clinical, and safeguarding supervision to build upon confidence, competence and commitment to developing self and the role.

The role will require the post holder to work as a member of the Wiltshire CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA) Team.

You will provide indirect and direct clinical support to young people accessing CAMHS via the SPA with guidance from qualified SPA staff.


The Single Point of Access (SPA) is the initial point of contact for all Wiltshire CAMHS requests for service, covering three core CAMHS teams Melksham, Salisbury & Marlborough.


The SPA's main functions include:

  • Screening all requests for service (referrals) to inform clinical next steps.
  • Phone consultations to child and young people (CYP), Parent/Carers and other professionals to gather information to inform decision making of support required.
  • Provide timely advice and guidance either verbally or in writing.
  • Training to other agencies.
  • Support to secondary and tertiary education settings across Wiltshire.
  • Collaborative working with stakeholders to facilitate support to CYP.
Duties and responsibilities

  • To support the development of the Single Point of Access (SPA
  • To conduct waitlist calls to patients, carers, and professionals to gather information to support qualified staff to coordinate the appropriate allocation of referrals to pathways
  • To work under the direction of the qualified staff to support prompt and clear information to families trying to access mental health input for children and young people and triage to the correct support depending on presenting need
  • To supply all clinical information within the required timescales to keep the teams data on the patient's electronic records up to date
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times
  • To participate in clinical meetings as appropriate
  • To support patients with individual needs and choices
  • Give formal verbal and/or written handover of patient care
  • To keep the service and professional line managers for the post informed of all matters affecting the provision of service and patient care
