Description of Role:
The Session Leader will be instrumental in creating a welcoming, supportive and safe environment for Border Links Club Members and will work towards improving life chances for people with learning disabilities through a 'person
- centred approach'. The post holder will provide appropriate training and support for adults with learning disabilities to enhance their daily life experience and encourage participation in the life of their own local community. The Session Leader will aim to empower people and support each individual to develop their own interests and skills and move towards achievement of personal potential.
A.
Duties and responsibilities _specific_ to post:
- To promote the principles of
Rights, Independence, Choice and Inclusion as outlined in the Government White Paper
'Valuing People'. - To support people in community-based activities, choices and interests, including the use of relevant public resources and the development of new social events, activities and services.
- To consult with service users to plan and facilitate sessional activities, making available appropriate resources, equipment and ensuring appropriate levels of support.
- To assist in developing 'local community links' with others, e.g., voluntary and community agencies, and to help facilitate 'social inclusion' by assisting people to develop their own networks of community support.
- To carry out risk assessments, working with individuals, other Border Links staff, commissioners, parents/carers and other providers of services.
- To assist with regular Health & Safety and Covid checks/monitoring.
- To undertake relevant training as directed by Border Links Management
- To contribute to the appropriate staff development of others, including the training and supervision of support staff and volunteers.
- To provide transport for service users, as required, to and from Border Links venues and when accessing community resources as necessary
- To maintain appropriate records and undertake monitoring and review processes as required.
- To support the Person-Centred Planning process and contribute to the realisation of service user plans.

B. Duties and Responsibilities _shared_ by all employees
Quality Assurance
All Border Links staff are accountable for the quality of their own work.
All will be expected to adhere to the quality procedures applicable to the post, and to ensure that all users of services have their needs and expectations identified and fulfilled.
Communication
To attend staff meetings and briefing sessions as required and to be fully conversant with the Border Links procedures, policies and objectives.
Health Safety
All staff are expected to comply with the organisation's Health and Safety arrangements and procedures and have a responsibility to advise their line manager of any issues or concerns which may impact upon the provision of a safe and healthy environment.
