Job Summary


Joining the team who are shaping core IT change projects within the OTDT Product Centre pipeline, you will be tasked with using your specialist knowledge of donation and transplantation support processes to help us meet our business requirements, and determine what products need to be developed.


Delivering strategy-focused digital changes, you will analyse complex data and information to inform your decisions, translating this knowledge into clear directions for scrum teams.

Working across the whole spectrum of each project, design, development and delivery you will create and prioritise a list of features to be delivered during each pre-defined programme increment, ensuring colleagues, customers and external suppliers are on-board with your plans, while working with senior staff in other departments to coordinate the delivery of your goals.


Crucially, you will lead by example, inspiring your teams to work towards shared goals, even when they're not working at the same site.


Main duties of the job

  • The Product Owner is a vital role in the ODT Scaled Agile development process.
  • The post holder will join a team dedicated to the development of core IT change projects within the ODT pipeline.
  • They will develop a clear vision for what is to be developed, then communicate this to scrum teams to deliver. During 2021/22, this will focus on the delivery of strategyfocussed digital changes.
  • The post holder will be a Subject Matter Expert, with a high level of knowledge in existing and future donation and transplantation support processes.
  • They will have a strong understanding of users, the donation and transplantation environment, current systems and of future needs.
  • The post holder will work with the Product Manager (Head of Healthcare Informatics; their line manager) to develop and prioritise a list of Features to be delivered during each predefined Programme Increment.
  • The key to success in the role is communicating the vision for what is to be built. They must motivate their scrum team(s) towards clear goals.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and to travel extensively, including overnight stays when required (with appropriate prior notice).

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Clear evidence of leadership and influencing at all levels, developing, leading, mentoring and coaching teams.
  • Experience of responsibility for design and delivery of service improvement.
  • Experience of MS Office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in managing and motivating people to deliver strategic and business objectives.

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to Masters degree level or equivalent qualification OR equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Formal management/leadership training or demonstrable leadership skills
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD)
