Job Summary

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) plays a crucial role in supporting the NHS, contributing to better patient outcomes and saving lives.

Joining the Nursing team at OTDT, you will be a key player within the National Referral Centre (NRC) team, facilitating tissue donation from donors across the UK.

As the tissue donation program grows, you will also be involved in developing and implementing strategies alongside the NRC Matrons to expand the donation program, training, and clinical standards.

Main duties of the job

  • You will triage potential deceased tissue donors, conducting clinical and practical assessments for suitability.
  • Evaluate information and, when needed, communicate with the donor's family to obtain consent and make donor selections.
  • Advise referring professionals on the suitability of potential donors.
  • Act as an ambassador for tissue donation, fostering relationships to promote collaboration within the NHS.
  • Take consent and select donors for deceased donation.
  • The National Referral Centre operates from 08:00 to 20:00 seven days a week. Shift work, weekends, and bank holidays are required to ensure coverage, with occasional travel.
  • Understand regulatory requirements related to Tissue Donation and the Human Tissue Act.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Clinical management experience and knowledge of clinical effectiveness principles, best practices, clinical audit, and research.
  • Track record of meeting performance objectives and organizational targets.
  • Ability to promote professional development, including coaching and mentoring in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in planning and delivering training in a clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate changes in clinical practice.
  • Familiarity with patient safety initiatives, strategies, and risk management.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for Information Technology.

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (RN1 or RNA) and post-registration experience.
  • Commitment to Continued Professional Development (CPD).
