Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time
The University of Oxford is a world leader in research and innovation.

Our research portfolio covers an exceptionally broad range of disciplines and has a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

Research Services provides comprehensive professional support for Oxford's research and innovation activities. We work closely with researchers, academic units, other professional services and a wide range of external collaborators and funders. We strive to be a trusted provider of strategic insight and internal and external influence.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Research Communications Specialist, who will lead the development and implementation of a strategy for communicating university-wide research initiatives to internal and external audiences.

The position is part time, working 0.8 FTE with the opportunity for hybrid working. This is fixed-term (for 6 months in the first instance).

What We Offer
As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Family leave schemes
  • Cycle loan scheme
  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans

The University also runs an enormous amount of social groups and sports clubs for those looking for more than just a great place to work.

About the Role
The Research Communications Specialist will support the work of two functions within

Research Services:
the Strategic Research Development Team and the Research Strategy and Policy Unit.

The Strategic Research Development Team manages the Strategic Research Fund (SRF), which provides investment supporting transformative new research initiatives at the University of Oxford.

The Research Strategy and Policy Unit leads on institutional strategies and initiatives to strengthen Oxford's research and research environment. The Unit convenes collaborative change initiatives, for example to enable good research practice and a positive research culture.

A number of opportunities have been identified for broadening the reach of our communications and your role will take the lead on developing the appropriate materials and publishing them on multiple platforms for a broad range of audiences.

The Research Communications Specialist will provide expertise in the development and implementation of a communications strategy for the flagship SRF, and identify routes for sharing progress and outcomes of projects run by the Research Strategy and Policy Unit.

This includes providing enhanced guidance, case studies and other promotional material, and using social media posts and formal reporting.

The post holder will also be at the forefront of the organisation team for the very first SRF Showcase event in 2023, raising awareness of the University's commitment to invest in these transformative initiatives.

This role represents a genuine opportunity to facilitate transformative research at Oxford University.
