Our Children and Families Services Team aims to help families reduce the conflict often associated with separation and encourages collaboration.

Our Child Contact Centre offers Supervised and Supported Contact to a wide variety of families from centres in South and West Yorkshire.

We are now looking for an experienced childhood professional to fulfil the role of Child Contact Officer in the Huddersfield area.

Hours of Work:16 hours - required full day Saturdays 8:30am - 5pm

Salary:
£13.37 per hour (£11,230.84 pro rata, £24,330.40 FTE)

Contracted post:
Fixed term contract until 31st March 2024 due to Maternity leave

Purpose of the the role - why the role exists and overall responsibility_

  • To ensure that YCC's Child Contact service is a warm and welcoming environment for children, young people and their relatives to rebuild/establish their relationships following family breakdown.
  • To support parents in overcoming barriers to contact and begin to form successful coparent relationships where safe beneficial contact is at the forefront of their plans.
  • To ensure that safety and welfare is paramount for any child using our centre.

Main activities_

Delivery of Child Contact Interventions

  • To be responsible for delivering child contact interventions, ensuring a warm, welcoming environment that children and young people can relate to and feel comfortable within.
  • To establish a relationship of trust with children and young people by providing an avenue for children and young people to discuss their thoughts, wishes and feelings, in confidence, and to help ensure that children have a voice.
  • To supervise, observe and report upon child contact sessions and provide support and advice to both children and adults on the rebuilding of relationships, whilst ensuring that the safety and welfare of children is paramount.

Written Report

  • To produce accurate and factual reports following child contact interventions, that are completed to a high standard and in a timely manner in line with the services KPI's.

Dispute Resolution

  • To work with adults in developing a coparent relationship, using a range of resources designed to support families through family breakdown, eg online resources GIRFC, SPIP, mediation and parenting plans.
  • To support families in happy and safe family relationships, signposting families for further support both internally and externally of the charity.
  • To ensure that adults are provided with the knowledge of the detrimental impact of parental conflict, domestic abuse, substance and alcohol misuse and mental health issues on children.

Environment

  • To provide an environment free of parental conflict, ensuring all risk assessments and safety measures are compiled with.
  • To ensure techniques for deescalation are used appropriately when working with clients with challenging behaviours.
  • To provide a safe environment for children, that is compliant with the service's health and safety procedures, ensuring a warm, clean, and hygienic environment.
  • To produce individual family risk assessments to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, children, and parents.

Compliance

  • To work within the parameters of court orders and professionals referral requests where appropriate and safe to do so.

Other

  • Comply with all relevant YCC policies and procedures
  • Undertake training and professional development as necessary in order to be able to fulfil the role

Knowledge, training and experience required_

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Social Care, Supporting Parents, Early Years, Health, Education or Community Work or equivalent.
  • GCSE/Level 2 English and Maths or evidence of a good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Safeguarding training to Level
  • A strong knowledge of child development.
  • Fluency in a second language would be desirable, to support the needs of local communities e.g., Urdu, Punjabi.
  • Knowledge and understanding of different family systems, cultures, religious, social, cultural and ethnic groups.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the impact of substance misuse, mental health issues, domestic abuse and high conflict upon children
