The Food Services Coordinator will be required to work independently within Catering Standard Operational Procedures and the principles of a flexible team approach and will be predominantly responsible for the operational organisation and supervisory management of the Food Service at Ward Level and all Commercial Catering Services (including; restaurant and coffee shop, newsagents, vending and hospitality) within the Hospital base and any associated areas.

This will include ensuring that a high standard of customer service are maintained at all times throughout all areas.

The Food Services Coordinator will deputise for the Hotel Services Supervisor/Food Services Team Leader as/when required.


Adhering to safe working practices and hygiene requirements in line with HACCP, all relevant Food Hygiene Legislation/Guidelines, and Health Board policies and protocols.


The completion of hard copy and electronic documentation as laid down, and taking appropriate action as required in compliance with HACCP protocols and, Departmental and Health Board policy.

The role will include undertaking duties in a chilled and/or frozen working and storage environment, as appropriate.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • The ordering, control, storage, issue, receipt and administration of the provision of all food items, hardware, crockery and cleaning materials within Food Service areas whilst maintaining an effective recording system to identify the movement of stock from the provision store to its destination.
  • To undertake the organisation of work schedules and duty rosters, and prioritise allocated work and staff resources as and when required, to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Demonstrating good organisational and timing skills to meet departmental guidelines and targets.
  • Resolve day to day issues to support the delivery of service provision in all associated areas, ensuring its delivery is of a high quality, efficient and cost effective.
  • The Food Services Coordinator will assist the Food Services Team Leader as/when required with the control, supervision and monitoring of the Central Production Unit.
  • The control of staff uniforms, linen and associated disposable consumables.
  • To compile information for the monthly statement of catering and any associated costs by providing the documentation/statistics relevant to consumption amounts.
  • Assisting in the annual collation of stock levels held on site and any associated area.
  • To input, collate and report accurate meaningful data including patient feeding numbers, commercial sales etc in line with associated departmental requirements.
  • To ensure optimum performance levels/Departmental targets are met, including income generation.
  • Ensure economical and correct use of all materials and equipment. Reporting any mechanical defects, the need for repairs to the Estates Department/Catering Officers and monitoring results, taking appropriate action as/when necessary.
  • To monitor wastage in associated areas in line with departmental procedures and compile accurate meaningful reports.
  • To ensure the safe, secure and prompt delivery of all associated food, beverage and consumable items to all designated service points.
  • Ensure the security of all stock and equipment within the stores and during transportation to associated areas.
  • To manage, monitor and undertake cleaning duties as/when appropriate to maintain safe high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout as per detailed cleaning schedules and safe systems of work in respect of catering equipment utilised. This will be achieved by agreed methods and will include the use of appropriate cleaning equipment (to include electrical) and cleaning chemicals.
  • The departmental induction and training of both new and established staff, ensuring compliance with the Departmental training plan.
  • To monitor and assist in maintaining staff records, including recording of annual leave, discipline/performance levels, personal development, staff sickness etc.
  • To control the safe removal of chemical, general and food waste in/to designated containers/areas for disposal, in line with departmental and Health Board policy.
