Job Duties:


To contribute to the work of the Families First triage team to ensure that children and families get the right response to the concerns raised within an appropriate timeframe and by the right agency.

The work is underpinned by the principle of improving outcomes for children and young people through:

  • Effective screening and support, to ensure that families receive the 'Right Response' from the appropriate agency at the highest levels of need without unnecessary delay
  • Strengthening screening and referral processes of Specialist Social Care Team and ensure a more timely and proportionate response to ensure that all contacts get feedback and are supported in appropriately addressing the needs of children and young people.
To make a preliminary identification of children and families needs, assessing the risk in respect of the concerns raised.


With management direction and support to undertake basic follow up and clarification of the original contact to liaise with other CS Teams, other agencies and members of the public as appropriate.

To understand the thresholds pertaining to the Joint Child Protection Investigation Team.


To contribute to the process of multi agency/social care decision making by providing appropriate and sufficient information of the concerns raised.


Gather and accurately record information both manually and on computers to support the audit and quality assurance of the service.


To attend regular meetings along with colleagues, management and other professionals and to support the aims and objectives of the service.

To maintain a database of agreed functions under management supervision.

The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary.

Additional Information

Although there are no specific qualifications required for these roles previous experience in working with children and families would be beneficial.

You will be a competent communicator, with the ability to communicate well with members of the public and professionals.

You will have good IT skills as this post requires use of different IT systems.


You will be empathic and sympathetic to the needs of the children and families you come in to contact with.
