London, Greater London, United Kingdom DS Smith Full time

We are looking for outstanding graduates to join our Group Risk & Insurance Graduate Programme in London, beginning in September 2024.

Forget any preconceived ideas about risk and insurance, this programme offers a unique opportunity to work within a flourishing team who make the use of people's strengths and passions and turn it into strategic assets which protect the business.

Within this scheme, you'll get an overview of the Risk & Insurance processes, from financial planning to project management and internal audits to Annual reports, principal risks and insurance coverage options.

However, you'll also get the opportunity to share your interests and passions, utilising your strengths to develop your own path and carve out your own career.

You'll be the master of your own domain, whether you want to follow a traditional risk and insurance path or go down a non-traditional route which is tailored around your own interests, whether that's law, health and safety, technology or innovation (just to name a few).

Whichever path you take, you'll develop a range of skillsets, from stakeholder management and project management, to supplier negotiation and communication management.

These skillsets will take you on an exciting career which could take place anywhere within the business.

And if you want to travel as part of your role, there are opportunities to visit some of our sites across Europe and America.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to carve out their own path, work within a social team who celebrate achievements, and allow people to work in an environment which allows them to thrive.

Who are DS Smith?

You might not have heard of us before, but you will likely have handled our products on a daily basis.

We are the leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, paper products and recycling services.

We've been around for over eighty years and operate in over thirty countries across the UK, Europe and the United States.

From food and beverage packaging in your local supermarket to every Amazon parcel which arrives at your door, DS Smith has created packaging, which is innovative, secure and kinder to our planet.

About the programme

The role will be based at our swish new offices in Paddington, London. You'll be initiated into the world of Risk & Insurance, learning about financial planning, project management and principal risks.

Every day is different; one day you might be supporting the corporate plan, the next you'll be responding to health and safety incidents or cyber-attacks.

You'll get exposure to each part of the business with opportunities to travel to Europe and beyond, which will open up opportunities beyond the Risk & Insurance team.

With that in mind, after your induction to the business, you'll be encouraged to take on projects which matter to you.

Your background and studies might be in law, technology, innovation, sustainability or health and safety (to name a few), and you can use those passions within the investigations or projects which you pick up.

After you've completed the graduate programme, the world is your oyster.

Some have gone onto other teams and divisions and excelled within a career within other functions, whilst others have progressed within Group Risk & Insurance into leadership or specialist skillset roles.

Development

Alongside your on-the-job learning, you will go on the DS Smith Graduate Journey where you will have a roadmap of development to support your career.

When you join us, you will be given a full induction to the business, including a tour of some of our paper, packaging, and innovation centres.

In year one, you will learn about Self Leadership and Personal Effectiveness, while in year two, you will learn about leadership, stakeholder management influencing.

Finally, when the programme ends, you will deliver a presentation about your learnings, celebrate your success with a graduation dinner and work with your Talent Lead to find the best permanent home for you.

But do not worry, you will not be doing this alone.

You will have a network of graduates to bounce ideas off, be given a mentor and a former graduate will be there for guidance and support throughout your journey.
