Job summary

This post is for a Speciality Doctor, to work on the Stroke Unit at Lincoln County Hospital. The successful applicant shall provide routine care and assistance managing day to day running of the ward, including the management of stroke patients undergoing acute and rehabilitation phases of their stroke pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to actively participate in the day to day running of the Unit, which accommodates 24 beds . This includes running a daily middle grade-led ward round with junior support and close liaison with the consultants. They would also be expected to carry out a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and supervise the junior doctors on the ward. The post holder will also play an active role in the assessment of new admissions to the unit and provide an in-reach service to the emergency department and MEAU. They need to ensure that administrative tasks are supervised and completed promptly. The Unit has a strong teaching and governance ethos and the post holder is expected to contribute to this and to design and execute projects relating to service evaluation and improvement. There will be an opportunity to take part in running TIA clinics and thrombolysis calls in liaison with stroke ACPs.

The duties of the post are subject to review from time to time in the light of changing requirements of the service.
