Positive Play Area Co-ordinators are responsible for advising and liaising with school staff and other professionals, to enable an understanding and to develop skills of how to support children and young people with SEMH difficulties, using the Positive Play Support Programme methodology


They work collaboratively with colleagues and teams within Learning, Access and Inclusion and wider Schools and Learning department, to achieve the best outcomes for the children and families supported by Behaviour Support Services.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Work flexibly across the county, according to service need, delivering Positive Play Support programmes to primary, secondary, and other settings.
  • Provide training and mentoring support to school staff aimed at developing an understanding of SEMH, raising selfworth, confidence and supporting emotional regulation, through the natural medium of play in an inclusive approach.
  • Provide 11 programme of support for children and families with SEMH difficulties.
  • Assist schools in developing a 'whole school, whole child' model of support ensuring that parents and the wider family are equipped with skills and understanding of engagement and the benefits.
  • Work alongside school staff with the planning, structuring, and resourcing of Positive Play Support sessions, enabling a tailored approach to meet the needs of the child and young person
  • Champion the needs of and advocate for children and young people with SEMH difficulties.


Applicants will be considered for this post who have had Positive Play, Thera play or similar training to enable them to work with young people and their families.
