Introduction


The Governance Office supports the governing body of the House of Commons, the House of Commons Commission, chaired by the Speaker and runs the offices of the Clerk of the House of Commons and the Director General.

It provides the secretariat for the Commission, the Commons Executive Board, and a number of Domestic Committees.

The Office is also responsible for key corporate functions including Governance, Assurance, Strategic Business Resilience, Communications, Diversity and Inclusion and Restoration and Renewal.


The Information Compliance Service sits within the Governance Office and leads for the House on information security, manages the House's obligations in line with information laws and regulations (UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIRs) and The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR)).

The Service also supports Members of the House of Commons (MPs) with their own information compliance responsibilities as separate controllers.


The Role
The post-holder will be a qualified practitioner in data protection law. This role will have line management responsibility for approx. five posts.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
A relevant qualification in Data Protection law is essential (e

g:
BCS, CIPP/e CIPM)

  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems in a multistakeholder environment and make effective decisions under pressure. Ability to reach sound judgments under pressure, often autonomously and without the possibility of crosschecking with more senior colleagues
  • Experience of building team capability, providing clear direction to meet current and future business needs. Ability to create an environment where staff are motivated to achieve results, setting priorities, monitoring performance and giving feedback, supporting development while promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to build internal relationships and networks built on credibility, respect and trust. Strong customer and business focus with the ability to work closely with and influence senior management and key decision makers, with the confidence to challenge, negotiate and persuade where appropriate.
  • Able to communicate complex, technical matters to stakeholders in a way that is understandable and meaningful to the receiver; conveys important messages and key decisions accurately and ensures they are understood and acted upon
