More about this role:


As the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for Cuckoo, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our data processing activities comply with relevant data protection laws and regulations and data privacy is engrained in the fabric of the business.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing data protection policies, procedures, and strategies to safeguard the privacy and security of customer information, supported by a data protection administrator.

In addition, you may be required to provide ad hoc support on legal, commercial and consumer matters to cover absences.

Responsibilities;

Data Protection Compliance:

Stay informed about data protection laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.

Monitor changes in legislation, ICO approach and structure, and advise and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.

Conduct regular audits to assess compliance with data protection policies and procedures.

Policy Development and Implementation:

Develop, update, and implement data protection policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with legal requirements and industry best practices.

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to embed data protection measures in business processes and practices.

Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs):

Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments for new projects, services, or system implementations to identify and mitigate privacy risks.


Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure that data protection considerations are integrated into project planning and development by design and default.


Training and Awareness:

Provide training to employees on data protection policies, procedures, and best practices.

Raise awareness about data protection among employees and stakeholders through various communication channels.

Incident Response and Breach Management:

Develop and maintain an incident response plan for data breaches.

Act as the point of contact for data protection authorities and individuals affected by a data breach.

Data Subject Requests:

Work closely with functional leads and the legal team to address individual privacy concerns.

Management Development:


Create a structured learning and development plan for Cuckoo's data protection administrator, including opportunities for growth through job enrichment and job enlargement.

Contribute to organisational learning and development and Cuckoo's values and cultural development

Legal Support and Assistance to cover:
Consumer law compliance, consumer agreements and advertising regulations

Commercial transactions, including review, drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements and dispute management


Experience of working within a business environment or advising a variety of consumer organisations on data privacy issues relating to B2C organisations.

Experience of dealing professionally and respectfully with all people within the organisation, regardless of job role or title.

Experience of advising on and escalating complex data privacy issues.

Working knowledge of the ICO, including experience of responding to ICO requests, ICO reporting and internal management briefings

Experience of working within a business environment or advising a variety of consumer organisations on data privacy issues relating to B2C organisations
