Promote the importance of resuscitation throughout the Trust by negotiation and presentation of specialist knowledge and skills required in the resuscitation of patients, Motivate all staff to provide appropriate response within the Trust policy, whilst acknowledging emotive issues eg.

Religious, ethnic, clinical and prognostic outcomes.

Lead the cardiac arrest team where appropriate and advise the team on treatment for medical emergencies during the immediate post resuscitation period Utilise clinical skills, such as intravenous/intraosseous cannulation, administration of emergency drugs, ECG interpretation, defibrillation and intubation.

Develop intermediate and basic life support educational programmes to agreed local standards to meet the requirements of specific multidisciplinary staff groups Attend resuscitation procedures and cardiac arrest calls across the Trust as appropriate, fulfilling an active educational and supportive role Advise and work alongside the cardiac arrest team to ensure optimum patient management Utilise high level of negotiation skills in order to promote changes in staff behaviour and attitudes to optimise patient survival Provide debriefing/counselling and reassurance to all staff involved in the care of the arrested and acutely ill patient.


Disseminate sensitive and distressing information to patients and relatives, providing counselling and support for the multi-disciplinary team Promote and lead effective communication with all disciplines, patients/clients and relatives.

Provide expert professional advice on resuscitation policies, procedures and equipment Have the knowledge and skills to lead a cardiopulmonary arrest and evaluate/guide practice of existing leader Identify and advise on clinical risk and clinical governance issues relating to resuscitation provision Advise the Trust, organisationally and operationally in matters pertaining to resuscitation provision Assist in the development of strategies to meet the resuscitation policy, practice and needs of the Trust Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures to meet the resuscitation needs of the Trust in accordance with Trust policy/Trust Resuscitation Committee/Resuscitation Board Develop and deliver intermediate and basic life support educational programmes to agreed local standards to meet the requirements of specific multidisciplinary staff groups Evaluate the effectiveness of these programmes and review accordingly Accountable for his/her practice, taking every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence Practice in accordance with the NMC.

Code of Professional Conduct and other appropriate Trust and statutory guidelines Support the development of research based practices when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating standards of care within sphere of responsibility Co-ordinate audit performance of cardiac/pulmonary arrests.

Maintain effective communication and teamwork within the Resuscitation Department thereby maintaining clear individual responsibilities within the team Ensure that national Resuscitation Council (UK) standards for resuscitation provision are upheld Ensure that accurate training records are maintained Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients/clients/colleagues and equal opportunities are practised.

Promote safe and effective practice relating to resuscitation provision Support the Paediatric Resuscitation Service Team Leader to effectively bring together operational Resuscitation Training and Development practices throughout the Trust Co-ordinate and deliver externally accredited Resuscitation Council (UK) Neonatal national courses Keep updated with resuscitation guidelines When required deputise for the resuscitation team leader at the Resuscitation Steering Group and Resuscitation Governance Group Maintain clear individual responsibilities within the team Ensure safe practice is maintained and promoted during training sessions It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure familiarity with all training equipment Represent the resuscitation service at any meeting where our specialist knowledge and experience is required
