In the UK, Safran Seats specialises solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales and Brackley, England.


As Lead Work Station Designer, you will work as part of the integrated ergonomics network within Safran seats to support all business departments with implementation of ergonomic good practices.

In this role, you will contribute to the design and modifications of work stations to fit the worker, ensuring best safety and eliminating discomfort and risk of injury within the workplace.

Key Responsibilities & Duties;

  • Support the integration of workplace efficiency in project management
  • Be part of the milestone review meeting in delegation to the ergonomic correspondent
  • Support ergonomic activities for Design / manufacture improvements
  • Participate in design reviews through each phase of new product introduction
  • Interpretation of design data to generate tools / fixture that reduces NVA (no value added) and improve capability of the process
  • Maintain traceability from design to manufacture of tooling
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of shop floor layout in conjunction with demand changes (Cell detail and inventory)
  • Provide 2D design data to enable manufacture
  • Coordinate and manage internal/external suppliers
  • Drive tooling continuous improvement activities
  • Work with industrialisation enabling smooth transition of tooling/ fixture requirements to supporting workflow
  • Participate in the validation of tools jigs and fixtures, using DFMEA and or PMFEA

Job requirements:

B.Eng in mechanical, manufacturing or similar engineering or HND gained through an apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline

Good Knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly processes

Understanding of DFMEA and PFMEA processes

Experienced user of Catia 5 or similar 3D design software for product interrogation and design

Ability to interpret 2D drawings

Good understanding of ergonomic principles

Self-motivating and capable of independent making

Knowledge and understanding of 3D printing technology

Ability in innovate and investigate new technology to aid assembly
