About The Role

Job Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Director – Development Management. This post has been created following a decision to separate the leadership of the council's Development Management and Building Control functions.

The postholder will be responsible for the delivery of the council's progressive planning policies by ensuring that effective and timely decisions are made on all the planning applications submitted to Islington Council. You will also manage the Planning Enforcement and Design and Conservation Teams.

The Assistant Director - Development Management will work to ensure that the council's decisions on planning applications deliver our progressive planning policy priorities. They will also work to protect and enhance Islington's built and natural environment by securing the highest possible standards of architecture, urban design, and townscape. They will be committed to ensuring positive change and development whilst protecting Islington's historic buildings and places.

We are looking for a highly experienced and qualified urban planner. They should have a strong track record of leading successful development management teams and services to deliver great outcomes for local residents. They should have experience of working in a complex urban environment. They should also be committed to improving our systems and processes and developing planning officers to deliver effective services to all our service users including local people.
