Job & Role Description, Day Centre Support Worker.

Salary - £10ph, rising to £10.90 in April.

Hours - Monday - Wednesday 9-2.30pm

Contract - Permanent.

Work Location - Glasgow (Battlefield).

Reports to - Day Centre Manager.

Qualifications Required - SVQ 2 Health and Social Care.

Glasgow's Golden Generation Support Services


To promote aspects of care for older adults, disabled service users and dementia service users provided by our day centres.

To promote the other services that GGG provides including Clubs, Befriending, Careline Services, and the Welfare & Benefits Service.


GGG is keen to ensure that the voice of those we support is actively listened to, both in terms of the development of individual support and in terms of our organisational development.


To work within the organisation supporting service users by maximising their skills and developing valued social care within the day care centre.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 121 and group support to older adults.
  • Follow older people's Care Plans and ensure that the needs of individuals are met.
  • Support management, colleagues, and volunteers to deliver day centre services to older adults.
  • To serve tea, coffee, and lunch to service users.
  • To support cleaning of a day care centre and follow cleaning schedules.
  • To follow management instruction and comply with health and safety issues for the day care centre.
  • To support planning and conduct activities for service users (including specialised activities for those with dementia).
  • To support service users affected by dementia with specialised support and overall care.
  • To escort drivers and support the transport of service users.
  • Collect cash on a daily basis from service users.
  • To attend a wide range of specialised care training sessions including specialised training to support those attending with dementia.
  • Assist service users to mobilise from one room to another including the bathroom (GGG does not conduct personal care for service users).
  • Accompanying service users on day trips may be required.
  • Support the Centre Manager organise fundraising activities when required.

Desirable Experience

  • SVQ level 2 Health and Social Care
  • Experience of working within the care industry.
  • Experience of working with older people and be able to show empathy and patience throughout the process. A background within dementia and Alzheimer's care is advantageous.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and follow management instruction.
  • Good communications skills to inform and support older adults.
