The Role

An excellent opportunity exists for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the Stroke Unit (Ward 21) within University Hospital Monklands (UHM). The Unit is a 19 bedded integrated stroke facility which provides hyper acute care and rehabilitation.

Applications are sought from candidates currently working within Stroke services, or those keen to progress into this area of care.

The nursing team currently provide a 24-hour Thrombolysis service, and a more recent development within the Unit has been the commencement of a Thrombectomy service, with UHM now part of the Scottish Stroke Thrombectomy Services hub and spoke model.

As required, the successful candidate will receive specialist stroke training which will include Stroke Core Competency training; National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) training; as well as training in Thrombolysis provision.

Following training and competency completion, the successful candidate will liaise with Stroke Consultants both in person and via telemedicine to determine a patients suitability for Thrombolysis treatment and also to determine the requirement for transfer of a patient to the Thrombectomy hub hospital site.

The successful candidate will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team within the Unit, including Allied Health Professionals, to facilitate rehabilitation; develop skills in complex discharge planning; and to develop close links with the Stroke Managed Clinical Network. In addition, there would be opportunity to take part in Stroke clinical research trials.
